Well, I’m back from Wonderfest. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to the Ren Faire as I woke up sick on Monday š But we decided to definitely go next year, and to go earlier in May when it’s cooler.
Anyway here’s pics and new costume stuff:
Chase and I drove up Friday night – it was an easy drive, only about 2 hours through the countryside. We got there around 9:30. The hotel was really neat. We decided we were too tired to go see X-Men 3, so we went to sleep.
Next morning we got up and went down to the con – I wore the new “different” Leia first.
When I first saw this Gentle Giant maquette I was torn. I love the Clone Wars style, but I didn’t like how they sexed up her image. Eventually I decided I did like it, and thought well, that would make a “different” Leia costume.
I used a Kwiksew pattern for the dress – it was really close, I just changed the sleeves, added the hood and cut the slits up the sides. I love how this dress flows when I walk. The boots were my Eternal Jupiter boots – I tried to take the green ribbon off the top, but boy, that stuff stuck GOOD! 3 years later and it was trying to pull the top layer of the boots off when I pulled on! LOL. So I just tucked the green part under.
The belt Chase helped me make – cut it out of leather, and dyed it white. Dad helped me with the metal pieces.
Chase got to wear Skip’s Alien, so I put on Ripley (which I thought I was going to look horrible in, but I ended up looking ok), and hung out with him and Loki in his alien.
Bob as Batman, Loki and Chase as Aliens, Skip as Predator and me as Ripley… we got interviewed here.
The hotel was full of “normal” people – folks not there for the con, so people at the pool were freaking out about the alien.
Then we all went to dinner, then to wal-mart. Then we went back to the hotel and I got a bad headache and eyeache so I went on to the the room and went to sleep.
Sunday morning it was Phoenix time!
Yeah, it’s all the same old stuff, just a new bodysuit, but it’s more recognizably comic-book Phoenix than my black one (although I overheard somebody calling me Spiderwoman, once)
Then we checked out the model contest, which was really cool, and then went to get our stuff out of the room since checkout was 2. I put Leia back instead of Mara Jade. Then we loaded up the car, all went and ate at wendy’s, and headed back to nashville. I felt ok that night and we went to see X-Men 3 (opinions withheld here).
And like I said, Monday morning I woke up all headachey and dizzy. I took some medicine, took a shower and hoped that would make me feel better. I knew I’d feel better after I ate so I tried to ride with Chase to get lunch, but then I got nauseated and had to go back. I did feel better after lunch, but I still didn’t feel great, so we decided not to go to the Ren Faire š We did go swimming and had a good dinner and rented a movie, so it was still a nice afternoon.

I’ve got new regular Leia almost done – the dress is sewn up, just need to put in the collar and add the hood. I’ve got ship stuff to COSI tomorrow…
I cleaned the bottom petals of Parade Amidala last night. I never planned on wearing it again after the christmas parades last year, so I let them get dirty… so now I had to clean them. All the black smudges came off the petals pretty well. It wouldn’t come off the edging that great so some of the edges are slightly grey. It wouldn’t come off the lining at all, but hopefully no one should ever see the lining. Mum is going to wash the dress for me today while I’m at work.
I’m excited about COSI! We leave thursday night…
